Caitlyn + Ian | Nanaimo Engagement Session

Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.
-Loretta Young

My first contact with Caitlyn & Ian was by e-mail and then phone, so their engagement session was the first time we had actually met in person. We ended up chatting and have fun the whole session ๐Ÿ™‚ Since I shoot at Neck Point so often I wanted to use some different spots in the park for Caitlyn & Ian to give their photos a unique look so I got a little creative with which path we took and ventured a little further off the path than I usually would. The result was beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚ The only down side was poor Ian having to rescue Caitlyns gorgeous shawl from a blackberry bush! Those thorns are vicious!

Shawl-eating blackberry bushes aside, Neck Point is a fabulous and versatile shooting location for any type of photography. One of my favorite things about Neck Point, other than the variety of scenery options, is the time and distance between shooting spots. There’s a fair bit of walking at this place so we get plenty of opportunities to chat and get to know each other while we’re wandering from place to place. This helps me give you the best session experience possible. It’s easy to see the progression in poses and images and how relaxed these two were as you scroll through the images and that’s mostly due to being able to get to know each other, ask questions, and realize that it’s okay relax and be themselves ๐Ÿ™‚ Letting your personality show is so important to your photos because without that personality you’re just a pretty face in front of my camera. If we have a chance to chat while we’re shooting I know what to say to coax that natural smile out, or what angle is perfect for your face shape, or how to pose you to make you look relaxed and comfortable rather than nervous and stiff.

Their engagement session turned out to be the perfect practice session for Caitlyn & Ian to prepare for photo time on their wedding day. They knew exactly what to expect from me and had time to become comfortable enough with me to spend the entire day with me following them around, which is why I include complimentary engagement sessions in all of my packages and make them non-negotiable ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a very important step in the photographer-client relationship and it shouldn’t be skipped. Even if you only have time to get in a short and sweet 20 minute shoot it’s better than not doing it at all. It will also show you how much time you actually need for your wedding photos on the big day!

Now that I’ve finished lecturing you on the importance of doing engagement photos please scroll down and enjoy Caitlyn & Ian’s engagement session ๐Ÿ™‚
