Qualicum Beach Family Session | Hodgson Family

*DISCLAIMER* The train tracks seen in this session are part of an inactive line running through Qualicum Beach. I do not, under any circumstances, advocate using tracks that are part of an active line. Trains don’t always run on schedule and people die needlessly every year due to not being able to get off the tracks fast enough. A train is much faster than you. Don’t risk your life just for a photo op.

For more information on the station and line itself see this Wikipedia article:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qualicum_Beach_railway_station

This session has been keep carefully hidden as it was a surprise for a family member so I’m just able to share these now 🙂 I’m always pleased to be introduced to a new location and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. This location is the Qualicum Beach Train Station. It used to be a stop on Via Rails Victoria to Courtenay  line, which ended in 2011. Since the closure of the line the building has been maintained as a heritage site.

The color and feel of the building itself makes for a beautiful rustic background for family portraits. Barns are hard to find out this way so if that’s a look you’ve been hoping for then the train station could be the next best thing.

Here are some of my favorites from this gorgeous family portrait session 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the blog!

But, when I start asking how long it’s been since they’ve had photos of themselves done, and the answer is not since their wedding…it’s pretty easy to talk them into a couple simple shots 🙂 At the end of the day, even though you’re mom & dad, you’re still a couple and that love deserves to be shown.

I love shooting individual portraits of the kids 🙂 I love seeing their personality shine through and capturing that light in their eyes and big smiles (or little ones). little girl with curly hair & glasses little boy chainlink fence little boy holding onto fence little girl playing in leavesNot every child will go along with being posed for the whole session so when that happens I let them burn off some energy, play and forget that they’re supposed to be sitting still lol This allows me to patiently wait for them to look at me at just the right moment and catch some great candid images.
