Sometimes a session just begs to be shown in black & white! That said, Melody has such beautiful skin it would be a shame to not show it offin a few color frames as well :) I'm always scouting for unique locations for my sessions here in Nanaimo. This is one of my hidden gems :) It doesn't look like much to a lot of people but I see a world of possibility here, especially when it comes to beauty portrait sessions...they can't all be shot in the trees. :)
I had no end of challenges when we were shooting this session. I mean, most shoot have challenges...but this one was just unreal lol First, I blew the fuse in my truck that powers the invertor that I use to power my lighting gear. So, no studio style lighting for me for this shoot. Next, the back up lighting gear that I brought wouldn't work. No flash lighting for me either apparently lol So, I ended up using a simple Snap On LED flashlight (Thank you Costco!) to light these portraits by hand. Geoff would usually be assisting with lighting but he was busy trying to fix the first lighting problem as well as shooting some portraits of his own so he couldn't hold the light for me like he usually does. Let me tell you that holding a flashlight in one hand and a 15 lb camera in the other is no easy task! I had sore arms & shoulders after the shoot! lol But, at the end of the session I got what I wanted to get and everyone was happy :)
Just in case any of the photographers out there are wondering how I did the black & whites, this is a preset for Adobe LightRoom called "Grungy B&W" :) Happy shooting ladies & gents!
